How important is the mental aspect of street fighting based self defense?
Physical techniques for self defense can be compared to weapons, like guns and knives.
Without the proper mental preparation, a "normal, law-abiding citizen" can be frozen in fear or lack the agression to use his weapon and be hurt or killed without having even attempted to defend him or herself.
On the other hand, an untrained individual who has overcome his fear to fight and is prepared to injure an attacker can effectively defend himself by grabing a tire iron and "agressively swinging away . . ."
